SKA striker Matvey Michkov was left out of the extended list of the Russian team for the Beijing Olympics. It is reported by “Sport-Express”.
The expanded composition will be announced on January 17. According to the SE, the coaching staff refused the invitation of 17-year-old Michkov. In the current draw of the Continental Hockey League (KHL), the striker scored five points in 13 matches.
Michkov is considered one of the brightest young players in Russian hockey. The child prodigy is compared with Alexander Ovechkin and other famous strikers.
Having taken part in the match of the Russian national team at the Karjala Cup against Finland in November 2021, Michkov became the youngest debutant in the history of the Soviet and Russian national teams. He surpassed the achievements of Ovechkin and Vladislav Tretiak.
Michkov is considered one of the favorites for the National Hockey League (NHL) draft in 2023. However, the striker reached an agreement with SKA that he would continue playing in Russia until the 2025/2026 season.
