Australian immigration police have detained Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, whose Australian visa was revoked, in accordance with a court decision, CNN reports.
The move follows a decision by Australian Immigration Minister Alex Hawke to revoke the tennis star’s visa on Friday, January 14, after days of deliberation over whether the 34-year-old Serb should be expelled from the country.
According to TASS with reference to documents published by the federal district court in Melbourne, the Australian authorities considered the presence of a tennis player in the country a threat to public order due to his negative attitude towards vaccination against coronavirus and sanitary restrictions that were introduced against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The tennis player is being expelled from the country for the second time, as his visa does not include data on a medical exemption from vaccination against COVID-19. On January 10, Djokovic managed to win the appeal and get the opportunity to take part in the Australian Open (Australian Open), which will be held from January 17 to 30.
