Premier League postpones match between Burnley and Leicester over Covid-19 outbreak and injuries

After a meeting held on Friday, the Premier League Council announced the postponement of the match between Burnley and Leicester. The duel was scheduled to take place this Saturday at Turf Moor Stadium. The request for the cancellation of the game came from the Burnley team, who claimed that they were unable to enter the field due to cases of covid-19 and injuries to athletes.

Last month, the English League postponed some games also because of the advancement of the ômicron variant. Despite the outbreak, the Premier League chose to keep the calendar, and if it was necessary to postpone a match, it would be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, as requested by the clubs.

In a statement, the Premier League said it had accepted Burnley’s request as the team did not have the number of capable players to enter the field.

“The Premier League Board has accepted Burnley’s request as the club does not have the required number of players available for the match (13 outfielders and one goalkeeper) due to COVID-19 cases and injuries,” the statement reads. .

There is still no new date and time for the duel.
