Juan Zapata, president of the organization, says that information disseminated on social networks is not official since a verdict cannot be given without having been in session.
The president of the Emergency Operations Committee of Ecuador (national COE), Juan Zapata, asserted this Thursday that the body he presides over “does not have the official requests” for the plenary to debate and decide whether the matches between Ecuador and Brazil, valid for the qualifying rounds for the Qatar-2022 World Cup, and the Yellow Night 2022 of Barcelona Sporting Club are played with or without capacity in the stadiums.
“There is a concern that you will surely raise (the press). I want to be absolutely clear: the information that is being given in some media, and especially on social networks, is not official”, Zapata started by saying at a press conference.
“The national COE, so far, does not have the official requests for these two matches (Ecuador vs. Brazil and the Yellow Night of Barcelona), therefore, we could not inform a decision. The president of the COE becomes the spokesperson when the plenary, which is made up of more than 20 institutions and 13 members who have a voice and a vote, has made a decision”, he continued.
The official also maintained that “as long as that (the plenary) does not happen, nothing is official.”
“We cannot talk about a match without an audience or with 20, 30 or 50% capacity because there is no official information. When it arrives, it is treated and a decision is made, always with a health report presented by the minister, it will be communicated, “he concluded.
The match between the Tricolor and the Auriverde is scheduled for next January 27 at the Rodrigo Paz Delgado stadium, while Barcelona’s presentation night will take place two days later at the Monumental Banco Pichincha stadium. (D)
