The veteran of the Canadian national team remembered the matches against the Soviet hockey players

Former Philadelphia Flyers and Canada forward Bobby Clarke recalled the match against CSKA Moscow in 1976. The veteran was a guest on the Cam & Strick podcast.

The 72-year-old Canadian admitted that against the backdrop of the Cold War, hockey players hated “commies.” However, having met the Soviet players, he realized that they are the same as in other countries.

“I knew Vladislav Tretiak well. He used to visit me. We talked and spent time together. Yes, and I knew other guys, it happened – they drank. They are just like us,” said Clark.

On January 11, 1976, the Flyers defeated CSKA Moscow 4-1 at the Spectrum Arena. The Philadelphians became the first team in the National Hockey League (NHL), which managed to inflict such a major defeat on the “CSKA”.

In the NHL, Clark played exclusively for the Flyers. He won the Stanley Cup twice with the club.
