Yuri Zhirkov returned to RPL

Khimki board member Roman Teryushkov announced that the club has been strengthened by 38-year-old former Russian defender Yuri Zhirkov. This is reported by “Championship.com”.

Teryushkov said that the contract with the player was agreed for six months with the option of extending for another year. Zhirkov has successfully passed the medical examination and will go to the training camp.

Earlier, Zhirkov admitted that he intends to resume his career for the sake of sports. He noted that money does not play a key role for him.

Zhirkov has been a free agent since the summer of 2021. His last club was Zenit, in which he became the champion of Russia three times. In addition, Zhirkov is known for his performances for CSKA, Chelsea, Anji and the capital’s Dynamo.

As part of the Russian national team, he won the bronze medal of the European Championship in 2008. In total, the defender has played 104 matches as part of the national team.
