Vasiliev said that Alyabyev died of the coronavirus, although he thought for a long time that he had a cold. “Anatoly was at home at first, but then he was sent to a rural hospital. And he had to immediately take him to the city. Only when they felt that everything was bad, they took him to the city intensive care unit, but they didn’t save him there, ”he added.
Alyabyev’s death became known on January 11. He was 70 years old.
The biathlete won two gold medals at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. The athlete won the relay and individual race. In addition, at the same competitions, Alyabyev took bronze in the sprint.
