With two of Mahrez, Manchester City thrashes Club Brugge in the Champions League

This Tuesday, Club Brugge and Manchester City faced each other for the third round of the Champions League group stage. In Belgium, Pep Guardiola’s team thrashed 5-1, with goals from João Cancelo, Riyad Mahrez (twice), Kyle Walker and Cole Palmer. Hans Vanaken cashed for the owners of the house.

With the result, the English are provisionally in the lead of group A (PSG and RB Leipzig duel at 16h), with six points. Brugge is in third place, with four.

In the next round, Club Brugge and Manchester City face each other again, this time in England. The departure will be on November 3rd, at 5 pm (GMT).

The game – The first time was of total domain of the visitors. In the 14th minute, City sent the ball to the net, in a move that Laporte set for Rodri. However, the goal was disallowed for offside.

At 27, De Bruyne missed a great opportunity. The midfielder received a pass in the center of the area and, free, finished weak, facilitating the defense of Mignolet.

Three minutes later, the English finally reached the goal. Phil Foden took off a deep shot for João Cancelo, who dominated, protected the defenders and hit the goalkeeper’s legs, sending him into the back of the net.

At 43, Riyad Mahrez suffered a penalty. The Algerian player himself went to charge, moved the goalkeeper and extended the score to Pep Guardiola’s team. City nearly made third in stoppage time, with De Bruyne throwing Foden out, and the Englishman fixed it up for Mahrez, who hit weakly.

In the second stage, the dominance of Pep Guardiola’s command followed. After eight minutes, Kyle Walker infiltrated the area, received a pass from De Bruyne and crossed to make the third.

At 22, City reached the fourth goal. Sterling advanced down the left and crossed low for Cole Palmer, just 19, to kick in and send the ball into the net.

At 34, the Brugge finally arrived in danger. Charles de Ketelaere received a cross from the area, alone, and headed for a good defense by Ederson. And the Belgians declined shortly thereafter. Hans Vanaken dominated the pass, faced the goalkeeper and sent it to the goal.

However, three minutes later, the visitors zoomed in again. Fernandinho launched Riyad Mahrez who, alone, advanced and scored the fifth of the English.

Sporting beats Besiktas in Turkey

At the same time, in a group C game, Sporting beat Besiktas, away from home, by 4-1. Sebastian Coates (twice), Pablo Sarabia and Paulinho scored for the Portuguese, while Cyle Marin scored for the Turks.
