A way has been found for Russian players to get to the Beijing Olympics, despite the ban of the National Hockey League (NHL). It is reported by “Match TV”.
As noted in Pavel Lysenkov’s column, the Russian national team found a way to get around the NHL ban and invite domestic players from the North American League to compete in China. The instruction has already been sent to the Russians in the NHL.
The representative of the Russian national team held negotiations with the leadership of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The organization will not prevent Russian NHL players from traveling to China. It is also noted that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) adheres to a similar position. Players from the extended roster of the national team will be able to travel to Beijing if they are under the program of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The Russian side will take over the organization of a charter flight from Beijing in the event that one of the players falls ill with COVID-19. In addition, the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (FHR) will reimburse financial damage from players missing NHL matches: the organization will cover insurance and compensation and pay salaries if the NHL clubs refuse to do so.
In December 2021, it became known that the NHL would not allow players to the Olympics in Beijing.
