Piero Hincapié, solid in his return with Bayer Leverkusen after the stop by COVID-19

Ecuadorian international’s first performance of the year in the Bundesliga; the twelfth of the championship season.

The game that Bayer Leverkusen and Unión Berlin drew this Saturday (2-2) represented the return of Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapié to a Bundesliga court and his first performance of 2022.

The defender tested positive for coronavirus during his year-end vacation period in Guayaquil, a contagion that he drew without major consequences and that once overcome allowed him to travel to Germany on Monday, January 3, to rejoin training since last Wednesday.

This Saturday, in the 18th round of the Bundesliga, Hincapié played the entire match in the central defense position.

The campus’s Spanish Twitter account highlighted the “great start for # Hincapié!” before the whole of the capital.

“Piero won all the duels he played against @fcunion,” says the tweet.

So far this 2021-2022 Bundesliga season, the Ecuadorian international has twelve games (751 minutes on the court) and one goal. In Europa League accumulates five performances (342 minutes).

Leverkusen is fifth in the standings, with 29 points; while Unión Berlin is sixth, with one less.

Bayern Munich (43 points) leads the German championship, despite being beaten 2-1 at home by Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday. Borussia Dortmund (37), his immediate pursuer, won in the final moments 3-2 in his visit to Eintracht Frankfurt, this Saturday. (D)
