This season he has a poor performance: good or very good performances (such as 3rd place in Klingenthal, 5th in Nizhny Tagil, 6th in Engelberg or 8th in Ruce) are mixed with bad ones. He did not enter the second series of competitions four times, including the 4-Hills-Tournament (he was 41st in Oberstdorf and 47th in Garmisch-Partenkirchen). In addition, he lost the qualification for the competition in Innsbruck (which was later transferred to Bischofshofen) – it was then that he decided to take a break from competing in the World Cup.
Kamil Stoch talked with Doleżal
As a result, Stoch will miss as many as four competitions in Bisfchofshofen (two in the TCS and two “normal” competitions, which will take place this weekend). And this is where his break will end, because he is to return to training on Monday to be ready for the competition in Zakopane. He made such a decision after talking to trainer Michał Doleżal, and information was provided by Filip Czyszanowski.
Everything seems to indicate that he has changed his mind. – I can imagine a situation in which Kamil Stoch will not start in Zakopane. We are in touch every day, we have training sessions planned, but we will not rush it – After the weekend in Zakopane, the jumpers will move to Germany, where they will first jump in Titisee-Neustadt (January 22 and 23), and then in Willingen (January 28-30) . Later in the World Cup, there will be a hiatus due to the Olympics.
Stoch still ranks highest among Poles in the overall World Cup ranking: he is 15th out of 216 points. Piotr Żyła is only 25th (138 points), and Dawid Kubacki is 36th with 37 points. The leader is Ryoyu Kobayashi (841 points), who has an advantage of 56 points over Karl Geiger. In further positions, but with a greater loss, are Halvor Egner Granerud (613 points), Marius Lindvik (543 points), Markus Eisenbichler (471 points) and Anze Lanisek (401 points).
