This Monday, Uefa communicated a punishment to the English team for incidents involving fans in the final of the European Cup, played in July, at Wembley stadium. The measure includes two games with closed gates, in addition to a fine of 100,000 euros (BRL 640,000).
“Making the English team play the next two games for UEFA competitions as home team to be played with closed gates, with the second being suspended for a period of two years from the date of this decision, for lack of order and discipline within and in the surroundings of the stadium,” the statement said.
“Fine the English team 100 thousand euros (BRL 640 thousand) for the lack of order and discipline in and around the stadium, for invasion of the playing field, for throwing objects and for disturbances during the national anthems”, completes the announcement.
Since the 2022 World Cup qualifiers are organized by FIFA, England will take their punishment at the start of the next edition of the League of Nations, which will be in June of next year.
In the Qualifiers, England lead group I with 20 points, three ahead of Poland. In eight games, Gareth Southgate’s men are unbeaten, with six wins and two draws.
