The Ecuadorian pilot rose to position 15 in the light prototype division; on motorcycles, Juan José Puga could not resume the competition.

The Ecuadorian pilot Sebastian Guayasamin recovered part of the time lost in the previous one and was located twelfth in the fifth stage of the Dakar Rally that is run in Saudi Arabia, proves that this Thursday he had only of the tricolor bikers, given the impossibility of leaving for Juan José Puga.

Day with a total of 560 kilometers of route in which Guayasamín was ranked 12, 32 minutes 41 seconds behind American Seth Quintero (Red Bull Off-Road Junior Team USA), winner of the stage in Riyadh.

The general of this modality keeps the Chilean Francisco López (EKS-South Racing) at the top, with the South American duo of Guayasamín and Argentine Ricardo Torlaschi in 15th place, a place above the fourth day when due to mechanical problems they were relegated.

On motorcycles, they entered again in action Álex Cueva and Juan Carlos Puga, not so Juan José Puga, who did not have his motorcycle available after the accident suffered on Tuesday, on the third day.

The day was not the best for this division, affected in its journey by a sandstorm, something that forced the organization to neutralize the stage in motorcycle, quads and classic categories, in order to guarantee the safety of the competitors and evacuate the participants. The other modalities were not affected.

With this modification, the classification of the stage was left with the Italian Danilo Petrucci (Tech 3 KTM Factory Racing) as the winner, after a penalty to Australian Toby Price (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), who had initially been the winner.

At position 115 was located Cave (Xraids Experience), while Puga (Puga Team) ranked 139. In the general classification, Cueva is 114 and Puga 127, board commanded by the British Sam Sunderland (GasGas Factory Team).

In cars, the winner was the South African Henk Lategan (Toyota Gazoo Racing) 1 minute 48 seconds behind French Sebastian Loeb (Bahrain Raid Extreme). The general continues with the Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah (Toyota Gazoo Racing), followed by Loeb and Argentina’s Lucio Álvarez (Overdrive Toyota).

At the end of the first week, and before the rest day, The Dakar will compete this Friday in the sixth stage in Riyadh with a total distance of 620 kilometers, of which 404 correspond to the special section. (D)
