Novak Djokoviæ closed in scandalous conditions. “Even an animal won’t eat it.” Hot protest

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has resulted in the introduction of strict sanitary restrictions in Australia, which will apply to the Grand Slam tournament. A few weeks ago it was announced that only vaccinated tennis players would be able to take part in the competition. Recently, however, there has been information that one exception will be introduced, which caused a lot of controversy. It was Novak Djokovic, who was allowed to participate in the tournament, although he has not disclosed his immunization status for a long time. Djoković was to be declared a “medical exception”.

“Even an animal cannot eat this kind of food”

A plane with a Serbian tennis player going to the Australian Open Grand Slam landed in Melbourne on Wednesday. Hours passed and he still hadn’t left the airport. Ultimately, it was decided that Djoković would return to Serbia. The tennis player appealed against this decision, but it is not known whether he will be allowed to enter Australia. For now, he is waiting for information and lives at the Park Hotel.

The whole confusion did not please the Serbs, Djokovic’s compatriots living in Australia. They are protesting at the Park Hotel. They have Serbian flags with them and they are demanding the release of Djokovic.

“I had to check out the scenes at the Park Hotel for myself, where Djokovic is being held and where his supporters have gathered to protest the impending deportation for not vaccinating,” wrote Ben Rothenberg of the New York Times on Twitter.

Ben Rothenberg also recorded a woman who was furious that journalists only cared for Novak Djokovic and not for the rest of the detainees.

The journalist also revealed for what purposes the Park Hotel is used. There are over 30 refugees seeking asylum in Many of them have been there for almost 10 years. Last October, there were a lot of people infected with the coronavirus at the center.

Australian “SBS News” reports that the conditions of life in the Park Hotel are outrageous. “Their meals contained bugs last week,” says Councilor Rohan Leppert.

“People there say they are at risk because they get bugs and mold-fed meals,” SBS News reads.

– I was just shocked. Providing such food puts people at risk. Even an animal cannot eat this kind of food, said Mustafa Salah, an Iraqi asylum seeker held at the facility.

– I was throwing up twice. I also threw up a few days ago after eating tuna. It’s not healthy, it’s not good food, added Hossein Latifi, another Iranian seeking asylum.

There have been several fires in the Park Hotel

Ian Rintoul, a spokesman for the Refugee Action Coalition, said he was horrified by the photos of moldy bread and worms he saw.

– People refused to eat and demanded it be taken. No other food was bought to replace it. They ate either food with worms, moldy bread, or they were hungry. Unfortunately, most of them were hungry. The fact that normal food cannot be served is really the biggest insult, said Ian Rintoul.

He also added that there is a long history of complaints about the food served to asylum seekers in immigration detention centers and that the Park Hotel should be closed immediately.

There have also been several fires at the Park Hotel recently. It is still unknown what caused them. One of the men in prison was even hospitalized.

The men complained that they were not safely evacuated outside the building, and footage seen by SBS News shows that the men were held on the first floor of the hotel and the front door was guarded by the police, SBS News reads.

This year’s Australian Open starts on Monday, January 17th.
