After controversial statements, Lukaku apologizes to Chelsea fans: “It wasn’t the time”

In a video released by Chelsea on Tuesday, the Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku apologized for the statements he made in an interview with Sky Sports, from Italy. In it, the player complained about the scheme used by Thomas Tuchel in the London team and said he would like to return to Inter Milan.

”To the crowd, I’m sorry for the frustration I caused, you know the connection I’ve had with this club since I was a teenager. I understand the annoyance and will do my best to show commitment in games and training. I also apologize to the coach, my teammates and the committee. This was not the time for that,” Lukaku said.

Among other controversies, in the interview the striker also hinted that a transfer to teams like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona was something bigger than going to Chelsea.

”What I meant by that is that some kids dream of playing for these teams, in my case, that club was Chelsea. Everyone knows that since I was 10, 11 years old, I’ve always said I wanted to play for Chelsea,” he explained.

Due to the controversy, Lukaku was not selected in his team’s draw against Liverpool, in the Premier League. However, after apologizing to the coach, the athlete was reinstated to the squad.

”I always said that I wanted to come here to be successful, so I signed a five-year contract because I think Chelsea is a club equivalent to success,” added the Belgian.
