Luiz Felipe explains and apologizes for joking with Inter player after Lazio’s triumph

This Saturday, playing at home, Lazio defeated Inter Milan 3-1, in a game valid for the eighth round of the Italian Championship. A scene after the end of the match caught my attention. Brazilian defender Luiz Felipe jumped on the back of Inter’s attacking midfielder Joaquin Correa, who got angry. The defender was expelled and left the field crying.

The Brazilian explained that he has been a friend of the Argentine since the time they played together in the Rome team, however, he admitted that he did not act correctly when playing with his former teammate after the result.

“It’s important to make it clear that I have great respect for Internazionale or any other club. We are all professionals, who are working in pursuit of our goals, and would never lack respect with another fellow professional. At the end of the match, I ended up jumping on Tucu’s back because he is one of the great friends that football has given me. Our families are friends and we have always been very close. There, what I most wanted was to give him a hug and joke about the result, as our friendship allows, but I got excited. Maybe, on second thought, it wasn’t the best time or the most appropriate place”, he wrote on his social networks.

“I apologize to anyone who felt offended and make it clear that I did not try, in any way, to be disrespectful towards him, other athletes or the institution Internazionale and its passionate fans. It was an innocent act, by a person who has great affection for Tucu”, he added.

Correa also commented on what happened and said that he did not approve of the Brazilian’s attitude.

“I’m sorry about what happened yesterday, from every point of view. Firstly, to football fans, of whom we must always be a positive example. Certainly my friend Luiz was wrong, for the gesture and the moment, and so my reaction was this. I wish it had never happened. But now let’s turn the page and move on, folks”, published the Argentine.

Lazio returns to the field next Thursday, when they host Olympique de Marseille, for the third round of the Europa League group stage. Luiz Felipe project the duel with the French.

“They have a very strong squad, with several national team players, and it will be another complicated match, but we have the support of our fans, once again, to be able to impose our rhythm at home and win the victory,” said the Brazilian.
