Manchester United begins the year with defeat and is 22 points behind first place

With a lone goal from Joao Moutinho, Wolverhampton won at Old Trafford and took DT Ralph Rangnick from undefeated.

One Manchester United dominated in all sectors of the game was defeated at Old Trafford by Wolverhampton, inflicting the German’s first defeat Ralf Rangnick as coach of the Red Devils, this Monday at the close of the 21st day of the Premier League.

After this game, United remains in 7th place in the standings with 31 points, 22 points behind the leader Manchester City and four behind the Champions zone, which Arsenal closes for the moment.

A goal from veteran Portuguese midfielder Joao Moutinho in the 82nd minute gave the Wolves victory, who had not beaten at Old Trafford for 42 years.

The away victory cannot be considered undeserved given the performance of both teams. At 11 minutes, Portugal’s Daniel Podence thought he opened the scoring, but his shot miraculously diverted United’s Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea to a corner.

La Roja’s international goalkeeper was decisive again in the 22nd minute, with another save to a half-volley shot from Ruben Neves.

The best chance for the locals came shortly before the break, with a shot from Uruguayan Edinson Cavani that brushed the crossbar (43).

Cristiano Ronaldo, captain of the team in the absence of Harry Maguire, barely received any balls, given the inability of his teammates to read his unchecks.

The entrance of Bruno Fernandes gave United a little more bite and his was a shot that crashed into the wood after the hour of play (67).

Before leaving for the African Cup to play with Morocco, Romain Saïss responded with a shot to the crossbar (75), before Moutinho decided the match with a low shot taking advantage of the ‘gift’ of Phil Jones, who before the loss of The United center-backs played their first Premier game in the last two years.
