Ma³ysz wanted it for Poland. He refused. “I made the right decision”. Great season in P¦

Long time ago the Swiss jumpers did not start the season as well as this time. They have already accumulated more points than in the entire last season of struggles, and one of the players can really count in the fight for the leading positions. It is about, but the Swiss coach Ronny Hornschuh did an extraordinary job not only with him, but with the entire team.

Great coaching talent with success in Switzerland. He was brought up by the founder of Hannawald’s successes

But the German is not just anybody. In his career as a jumper, he was successful practically only as a junior, and the only World Cup podium was brought by the competition in Harrachov in 1998 in difficult and lottery conditions, but as a coach he is mentioned by many in one row with Stefan Horngacher or Werner Schuster. He is to be similar to them, have the same mentality and unique approach to work that pays off in the results of his players. – My collaboration with Reinhard Hess (the creator of the successes of Sven Hannawald – editor’s note) gave me a lot. I learned things from him, which I transferred to my coaching workshop – said Hornschuh in an interview for Sport.pl.

At the beginning, however, he worked only in the German B squad. He did not lean out of the shadow of others, but at the same time drew a lot from his own model and philosophy of work. And finally he got a very interesting opportunity to prove himself: after the 2015/2016 season, he became the coach of the Swiss national team. It is a team with many interesting players, with a legend at the forefront, but above all a country that does not require huge successes right now. The federation allowed him to work and calmly waited for the results. And these came and surprised many.

He made Peier a World Championship medalist. And then in a few months he moved from a serious injury to places just behind the podium

Who would have expected that in 2019 a Swiss would win a medal at the World Cup and not be Ammann? At Bergisel in Killian Peier he led even after the first round, but was relegated to third place. He was delighted with the bronze medal, however, as if he were gold, and his euphoria went down in history as one of the most beautiful moments of the event organized by Seefeld in Austria.

Even then, Peier seemed to be a solid player, and perhaps one who will soon become one of the leaders. A year ago, however, he faced a huge obstacle on the road: he tore the cruciate ligaments in his knee and lost many months of starts. However, he gained weeks of work on himself, a school of patience and striving to return to great form. And I don’t think anyone would have predicted it would happen so quickly.

– He endured this injury and rehabilitation very well. He was not impatient, he worked hard and returned to the World Cup in great style – said Peiera Hornschuh. – In our team, we built the mold and developed in terms of technology in the spring, which translated into a very good preparation period. Killian has returned to the big venues already in good shape and the results in Russia for the season opening have given him a lot of confidence. but his jumps were fantastic anyway. I am convinced that sooner or later he will do it anyway – assured Hornschuh.

Hornschuh was Małysz’s first choice. Only after his refusal did he reach for Doleżal

The German is also an interesting figure in terms of the Polish team: in 2019, when he was leaving Poland, the idea was born in the Polish Ski Association to hire Hornschuha in his place. The trainer had his first successes with the Swiss and was praised by the whole community. No wonder it has become the hottest name. Since it was known that Horngacher would leave for Germany, and Werner Schuster would leave from there to school in Stams, it was believed in Poland that Hornschuh would be a good choice.

However, Michal Doleżal, the assistant of Horngacher, became the coach, and Hornschuh is still training the Swiss. What went wrong? Two years ago Adam Małysz argued that he had made Ronny Hornschuh an offer at the World Cup in Seefeld, which he thought for a long time and finally refused a few weeks later during the Raw Air tournament in Norway. He was supposed to “get scared of Poland” and the local environment. Peaceful work in Switzerland seemed to him more advantageous, although a little less prestigious.

What does Hornschuh say about the whole thing today? – I actually got an inquiry for a job in Poland after Killian’s bronze medal. However, I wanted to stay in Switzerland to further develop this team and make progress with it – he revealed. And he added probably the most important words in the context of the current situation of Polish jumpers. – This is a decision that I still consider the right one, because I believe that as a team we are still developing and we are able to fight for the podium or medals in the most important events – the coach pointed out. Therefore, if someone in Poland thought that it is still possible to return to Hornschuha, he may be forced to reject such plans. Although he remains one of the most interesting and developing trainers on the market in jumping, he has been stuck for years.

In the Swiss it is a bit weaker: Killian Peier is 12th in the general classification, although he was even tipped to the top group, Gregor Deschwanden is 14th and Simon Ammann 23rd. They will have a chance to improve them in Innsbruck and Bischofshofen. The competition in the first town will start on Monday, January 3 with training and qualifications. A day later, the third competition of the tournament will take place. Live coverage on Sport.pl and in the Sport.pl LIVE mobile application.
