The 2022 edition of the famous rally started this Saturday.
Qatar’s Nasser Al Attiyah (Toyota), in cars, and Australian Daniel Sanders (KTM), in motorcycles, prevailed in the prologue of the 2022 Dakar Rally classifications, between Jeddah and Ha’il this Saturday.
On the 19-kilometer special, Al Attiyah finished with a time of 10 minutes and 56 seconds. That allowed him to overtake Spaniard Carlos Sainz (Audi), who placed his hybrid vehicle in second place at 12 seconds, while third place went to South African Henk Lategan (Toyota).
The French Sebastien Loeb (Prodrive) obtained the fifth best time in that car category, while the Spanish Nani Roma (Prodrive) was seventh.
In motorcycles, Sanders (fourth in the Dakar of 2021), started this edition strong, with one minute ahead of Chilean Pablo Quintanilla (Honda) and one minute and 55 seconds ahead of Ross Branch (Yamaha) from Botswana.
The defending champion, Argentine Kevin Benavides (KTM), was fourth in that prologue.
The 2022 Dakar Rally began like this in its new edition, this Saturday, January 1, with a view to traveling more than 8,000 kilometers in Saudi Arabia, where its end is scheduled for January 14. (D)
