This Saturday, at a press conference, Xavi Hernández, coach of Barcelona, questioned the non-postponement of the match against Mallorca, which takes place this Sunday, for the 19th round of the spanish championship.
Barça is living with an outbreak of covid-19 – currently ten players are out because of the disease. The club also has casualties due to injury. With that, the team can arrive for this weekend’s duel with up to 18 absences.
“We are in an extreme situation. We are between 17-18 casualties, it depends on Umtiti, which today has a negative result, but hasn’t trained for a week. It’s a time to suspend the game. This way the competition is distorted, it’s a crazy game”, he said.
In his defense, the Spanish coach cited the postponement of the match against Sevilla at the beginning of the season. At the time, the game was suspended as three South American Sevilla players had not yet returned from their selections.
Despite the complaint, the coach stated that he will enter the field if the League decides to carry out the match.
“We must appeal to common sense. It’s not a complaint. It is a reality. Basketball has been suspended. Let’s play if the League forces us to. We train well. But it’s a chaotic situation. In any case, we are going to fight and try to win”, he added.
Barcelona is seventh in the Spanish Championship, with 28 points. In case of victory, the Culés may jump to fifth place depending on other results.
