In the qualifications, the Poles confirmed their very good disposition. All six competitors qualified for the competition. This season was only the second time. The fifth place in the qualification was taken by Piotr Żyła who jumped 138.5 meters. Only the Austrian Manuel Fettner has reached this distance.
– Honestly: I don’t know if physically I was ever better than now. It is a pity that in Oberstdorf it has been swept, but we are going on – said Piotr Żyła in Eurosport.
He was 16th (131.5 meters), Dawid Kubacki 24th (126.5 meters), Paweł Wąsek 29th (129.5 meters) and Andrzej Stękała 41st (128 meters).
The sensation of qualifying was the dropout of the fifth competitor in the general classification of the World Cup. The two-time Olympic champion jumped only 119.5 meters and took a distant 59th place.
The qualification was won by Markus Eisenbichler, who jumped 137 meters, but was compensated over ten points for unfavorable weather conditions. The second place went to the Japanese Ryoyu Kobayashi (134 meters), and the third to the German (135.5 meters).
In pair KO in the competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen there will be a hit match. Dawid Kubacki will face the current World Cup winner – Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud.
