The ATP Cup is a team competition that will just have its third edition. In 2020, the Serbs won the competition, and the Poles, after victories over Austria (2: 1) and defeats with Croatia (1: 2) and Argentina (1: 2), were eliminated in the group stage. In 2021, our team did not perform, and the Russians won the title.

Now we will play in Group D with Greece, Argentina and Georgia. Only the best team in the group will play in the knockout stages. We will see four teams in it.

The Polish team includes Kamil Majchrzak, Kacper Żuk, Jan Zieliński and Szymon Walków. In each match we will see two singles and a doubles match.

The match between Poland and Greece will begin shortly after the New Year’s Eve madness – at 7.30 Polish time. Then Kamil Majchrzak, 117th in the ATP ranking, will play with Michail Pervolarakis, 3rd in the world ranking. After them, Hurkacz and Tsitsipas, i.e. numbers 4 and 9 of the ATP ranking, will come out on the court.

A tournament full of stars

– I strongly believe that we will show our best side in the match against Greece and we will win – he says. – I’ve been with the national team for two days. The boys train hard. They came here earlier. Acclimatization is going very well. The team trains twice a day. They play singles duels and also doubles in terms of doubles matches, which are very important in this format – adds the captain of our team.

The former great doubles player reports that there is a great atmosphere in Sydney, where a lot of stars will play (only Andrei Rublev and are missing from the top 10 of the ATP rankings).

– At the press conference, the organizers made various games and puzzles for the players. Each team had to arrange its leader out of 48 puzzles on time. We have the best time of the six or seven teams they’ve already been playing. We are in the lead, because Hubert was quite easy and quick to arrange – laughs Matkowski.
