Valencia takes a comeback from Espanyol and loses chance of closing 2021 in the G4 of La Liga

THE Valencia closed 2021 with defeat. This Friday, December 31st, the team lost to the Spanish, for 2 to 1, at home. The match, played at the Mestalla Stadium, was valid for the 19th round of The League and featured a goal by Omar Alderete for the home team. The visitors turned with Raúl de Tomás and Javier Puado.

With the setback, the Valencian team lost its chance to be part of the G4 of the Spanish Championship: it occupies the 8th position and has 28 points. The Catalan club, which has 26, is in 9th place.

Valencia returns to the field on Saturday (08/01), at 17:00 (GMT), when they visit the leader Real Madrid. Espanyol, in turn, receives Elche, on Monday (10/01), at the same time.

The game – The first half was balanced, intense and featured attacks from both teams, which did not register good marksmanship. Espanyol, under the command of Vicente Moreno, had more possession. Already the Valencia de José Bordalás also missed the target.

The home team opened the scoring at the start of the complementary stage, at six minutes. After a corner kick, Paraguayan defender Alderete received a cross from Hélder Costa from the left and headed into the back of the net, scoring the first goal of the game.

Despite the disadvantage, the visitors continued to control possession and left everything the same. At 38, Tomás converted the penalty kick and sealed the tie. Six minutes later, Puado received a cross from Jofre and, with a header, guaranteed Espanyol’s 2-1 victory.
