The Brazilian Embassy condemned racism in relation to the Zenit football player Vendel
The Brazilian Embassy in Moscow on its VKontakte page appreciated the removal of the midfielder of the St. Petersburg Vendel for an offensive gesture during the match of the 20th round of the Russian Premier League (RPL) against the Voronezh Fakela.
The Brazil embassy expressed regret and condemned racist behavior towards the Brazilian athlete. The Brazilians also expressed unconditional support and complete solidarity of Wendel.
The meeting between Zenit and the torch took place on March 8 and ended with a score of 2-0 in favor of Petersburgers. In the 74th minute, Vendel received a red card for unsportsmanlike behavior at Zenit. The Brazilian showed the middle finger towards the fans. Later, Zenit head coach Sergei Semak said that the players and fans of “Fakela” provoked a football player.
Zenit scored 43 points and caught up with the leading Krasnodar. The torch remains an outsider of the RPL and with 14 points is in the 15th position.
