Vatanabe said that he would like to return Russians to international competitions
The head of the International Federation of Gymnastics (FIG) and presidential candidate of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Morinari Vatanabe, spoke about the return of Russian athletes to tournaments. His words are given by RIA Novosti.
“Athletes are most waiting for the opportunity to participate in international competitions. I would like their dream to realize, ”said Vatanabe, who is in Moscow on a visit. He added that the Russians have no opportunity to speak under the flag of the country before the end of the conflict.
Earlier it became known that 12 Russian representatives of sports gymnastics received neutral status. In particular, he was given the Olympic champion Angelina Melnikova.
In July 2023, FIG announced the admission of Russians for international competitions in neutral status from January 1, 2024. Representatives of the country refused to submit applications to participate in qualification tournaments and missed the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
