Chelsea has a deficit of 173.5 million euros in 2020-2021

the european champion Chelsea ended the 2020-2021 biennium with a deficit of 173.5 million euros (R$ 1.09 billion at the current rate), despite the 113 million euros gained with the achievement of the Champions League, announced the club on Thursday.

Although turnover has risen from 462.4 million euros to 496.9 million euros this year thanks to increased television rights in the Premier League and victory in the Champions League final, the London club ended 2020-2021 with a deficit, as covid-19 reduced ticket sales and halted player sales.

You Blues have spent €130.9m on transfers since June 30, mainly on the arrival of Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku. At the same time, only 123.7 million euros of sales entered their coffers, although the European champion received 19.6 million euros in bonuses linked to the exceptional clauses of previous transfers.

In the “likely scenario” of a new game closing to the public due to the omicron wave, Chelsea will have to rely on additional resources from owner Roman Abramovich’s company, the club said. Since the Russian’s arrival in 2003, Chelsea are enjoying their best period, with five Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues and an FA Cup.
