The head of the IOC Bach called to study the possibility of the admission of Russians at the Olympics-2026
The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach called for sports federations to study the possibilities of admitting Russians to the qualification Olympic tournaments for the 2026 games in Italy. His words are given by Reuters.
“The mission of the Olympic movement is to unite,” Bach said. The head of the IOC added that the federations of winter sports need to very carefully study this issue.
Previously, the IOC appealed to the admission of Russians to the International Biathlon Union (IBU) and the International Federation of Sports and Snowboard (FIS). The organization considered that the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, in which 15 Russians took part in a neutral status, became a successful precedent.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations removed Russians and Belarusians from tournaments on the recommendation of the IOC. Representatives of the countries were admitted to the summer games-2024 in the neutral status with a number of reservations and restrictions.
