Degtyarev: We will not allow anyone to call athletes foreign agents and traitors
The Minister of Sports of Russia and the head of the country’s Olympic Committee, Mikhail Degtyarev, promised to intercede at the athletes that would receive neutral status for speaking at international competitions. His words are given by TASS.
“We must rally, help, not interfere. We will not allow anyone to brand the guys, calling them in foreign agents and traitors, ”Degtyarev said. He noted that he made a speech with such a message at the Olympic Assembly.
Earlier it became known that the Olympic champion in sports gymnastics Angelina Melnikova provided neutral status to participate in international competitions. In total, 12 athletes who perform in sports gymnastics, as well as 10 coaches, specialists and judges, received it.
Last summer, Irina Wiener, who served as the head of the All-Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation, called the country’s homeless people who want to perform at 2024 games in Paris. With criticism of Russian tennis players who want to compete at the OI, Stanislav Pozdnyakov also made, who was the predecessor of Degtyarev in the OCR. He called them a team of foreign agents.
