MOC president of the IOC Vatanabe called on Ukrainians to accept the admission of Russians
The head of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and presidential candidate of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Morinari Vatanabe, said that he appealed to the Ukrainians calling for the admission of Russian athletes to tournaments in neutral status. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
“But even now they cannot accept it. However, I continue to communicate with them. Sport can help the world, ”the functionary said. He added that he understands the position of Ukrainians.
Previously, Vatanabe announced plans to visit Moscow. The Japanese noted that he wants to talk with Russian gymnasts.
In July 2023, FIG announced the admission of Russians for international competitions in neutral status from January 1, 2024. Representatives of the country refused to submit applications to participate in qualification tournaments and missed the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
