The head of FIFA Infantino said that Trump did not ask to allow the Russian team at the World Cup
The head of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Gianni Infantino said that US President Donald Trump did not ask him to consider the possibility of admitting the Russian national team to participate in the 2026 World Cup during their meeting. His words are given by The Guardian.
“I think there are more important topics for discussion, when negotiations about the world are underway than football,” Infantino said. At the same time, he emphasized that he wants the participation of all countries in international tournaments.
Since March 2022, Russian teams and clubs have not been participating in the draws of international tournaments due to sanctions by FIFA and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). The teams only conduct comradely matches.
For the first half of 2025, the Russian team schedules three friendly matches. In March, the wards of Valery Karpin will meet with Zambia in Moscow, Nigeria will be accepted on June 6, and on June 10 they will play with Belarus on the road.
