Ambassador Stepanov: Canadians missed hockey matches between Russia and Canada

In Canada, they missed matches with the Russian national hockey team. This was told by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Ottava Oleg Stepanov, whose words are quoted by TASS.

“Ordinary people do not forget about the history of the competitions between our teams, write us letters about this with hope for new meetings on ice,” Stepanov said. He also shared that the embassy continues the traditions of hockey diplomacy: employees play in local amateur leagues, and Russian-Canadian comradely matches are held.

In 2025, two large hockey tournaments were held in Canada. In January, the World Youth Championship was held, and in February – the tournament of the four nations of the National Hockey League.

In 1972, a super series of eight games between the national teams of the USSR and Canada took place, matches took place in both countries. The Canadian team won four victories, the USSR team – three, another meeting ended in a draw.

The Russian national hockey team has been suspended from international tournaments since the end of February 2022.
