FHR sent a letter to IIHF about the admission of the Russian national team
The Russian Hockey Federation (FHR) appealed to the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) regarding the admission of the Russian national team. This was announced by the general director of the organization Dmitry Kurbatov, whose words reports RIA Novosti.
The FHR wrote in IIHF with a request to explain the security problems was extended by the team’s unit for tournaments. “Please present what problems you bother, who and how did you evaluate these risks? What are the risks of our participation in the big world championship, in the youth and female, ”Kurbatov said about the content of the appeal.
According to Kurbatov, the IIHF position from a legal point of view looks extremely insolvent. “If you want to impose sanctions, apply. We will dispute them. For some reason, they do not do this, but talk about some kind of safety risks, ”he said, suggesting discussing any risks and their cost to find a solution.
On February 4, IIHF extended sanctions against the Russian national team and did not allow the team to the 2026 World Cup. At the same time, the decision to speak the team at the Olympics in Italy will be made after the presidential election of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in March 2025.
Russian hockey players have been removed from international tournaments since the end of February 2022. The last major competition for the Russians was the Olympic Games-2022, where the team won silver medals.
