Shamil Tarpishchev: at least 20 Russian tennis players can change citizenship
President of the Russian Tennis Federation (FTR) Shamil Tarpishchev at a meeting of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports warned that at least 20 domestic tennis players in the near future could change citizenship. It is reported by TASS.
“We do not have competitions in Russia, the leagues do not work, we have no deductions, and therefore we cannot finance reserves. We have a thousand people playing abroad, people can leave for other countries, ”said Tarpishchev. He added that now foreigners are actively processing Russian tennis players.
Earlier, tennis player Alexander Bublik explained the decision to change Russian citizenship to Kazakhstan in 2016. The athlete noted that he did it because of the money.
Russian tennis players continue to play tournaments under the auspices of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and the Association of Professional Tennisist (ATP) in neutral status. At the same time, representatives of the country are prohibited from performing at team competitions.
