FIS: The decision on the admission of Russians to the Olympics-2026 will be made by the Council of the Organization
In the International Federation of Sports and Snowboard (FIS), they responded to the call of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to allow Russian athletes before selection for games (OI) of 2026 in Italy. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
FIS said that the decision would be made by the Council of the Organization. They emphasized that in the case of Russians admission, their qualification path to the 2026 Olympics will comply with the existing principles set forth by the IOC.
Previously, the IOC appealed to the admission of Russians to the International Biathlon Union (IBU) and FIS. The organization considered that the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, in which 15 Russians took part in a neutral status, became a successful precedent.
Russians and Belarusians do not participate in international competitions by decision of IBU and FIS. The order entered into force in March of 2022 and will act until further notice.
