– The staff has a plan and a concept. They identified the problems. They talked to the players. On Thursday, they organize an internal meeting of the whole group. Withdrawing from the 4-Hills-Tournament comes into play only in the event of a disaster in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Jan Winkiel tells us.
On late Wednesday evening, the secretary general of the Polish Ski Association provided Sport.pl with information about the crisis conference. Such was called after the competition in Obertstdorf, which was disastrous for our staff.
Goal number 1: unscrew Stoch
In the first competition of the 70th Four Hills Tournament, the best Pole took only 28th place. Jakub Wolny was 32, Paweł Wąsek was 33, 38 and 41.
Immediately after the competition, we informed on Sport.pl that the coach would first talk to the director of PZN for jumping, and then they would both connect with the president of the association and secretary Winkiel, who are staying in the country.
The talks lasted about an hour and a half. – We decided that we need to criticize the jumpers less and work more on freeing their heads. They know how to jump, so you have to not disturb them – Winkiel tells us. – If there was a disaster in Ga-Pa [treningi i kwalifikacje 31 grudnia, konkurs 1 stycznia], the team will return to Poland for training and will probably appear in the World Cup only for the competitions in Zakopane [w połowie stycznia] – we hear from the PZN secretary.
But there is a belief in the team that there will be no next catastrophe. – Each jumper was diagnosed with slightly different problems. There are some technical things in common. Generally, the number one goal is to unscrew Kamil Stoch – Winkiel tells us.
Heads already at the Games
We hear all the time from our team’s camp that the players are well prepared physically. Even though more and more foreign experts argue that this is not the case.
– Piotr Krężałek, a biomechanist cooperating with the staff, confirms that it is good. You have to work on the directions of the distribution of power, but you cannot shift to physical preparation. Harald Pernitsch’s program implemented by our jumpers for six years still works well – Winkiel argues.
– We keep on fighting. No pressure on individual competitions. The jumpers’ heads will already be set for the Olympic Games – ends Winkiel.
