IOC called the Federation of Winter Sports to allow Russians before selection for OI-2026
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) called on the Federation of Winter Sports to allow Russian athletes before selection for games (OI) of 2026 in Italy. It is reported by SVT.
According to the source, the IOC turned on this issue to the International Biathlon Union (IBU) and the International Sports and Snowboard Federation (FIS). The organization considered that the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, in which 15 Russians took part in a neutral status, became a successful precedent.
Earlier, IBU press attache Christian Winkler reacted to the call of the head of the FIS and presidential candidate Johan Eliash to allow Russians and Belarusians to world tournaments in neutral status. He emphasized that the statements of other federations do not affect IBU.
Russians and Belarusians do not participate in international competitions by decision of IBU and FIS. The order entered into force in March of 2022 and will act until further notice.
