The ex-head of the Football Federation of Spain Rubiales, who kissed the Ermo, escaped prisons
The ex-head of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubiales escaped a prison term for the kiss of football player Jennifer Ermoso. It is reported by Bloomberg.
The court sentenced Rubiales to 18 months a fine with daily payment of 20 euros (about 10.8 thousand euros for the entire term). He was also forbidden to approach Ermos for one year closer than 200 meters. Earlier, the prosecutor’s office demanded for him 2.5 years in prison.
At the award ceremony of the 2023 World Cup, Rubiales put on a medal on the Ermos and kissed the football player on the lips. This caused criticism from the media and Spanish politicians. The functionary apologized and stated that he did it without evil intent.
After that, the prosecutor’s office of Spain filed a lawsuit against Rubiales. The ex-head of RFEF was charged with sexual violence and coercion. In addition, the disciplinary committee of the International Football Federation removed Rubiales from football activities for three years.
