Manchester City continues with the isolated lead in the Premier League. This Wednesday afternoon, Pep Guardiola’s team visited Brentford, for the 20th round of the competition. The match ended 1-0 for the leaders, who still counted on Chelsea’s draw earlier this Wednesday, to open up even greater advantage in the table.
The goal that gave City their tenth consecutive Premier League victory was scored by young striker Phil Foden, in the 16th minute of the first half. De Bruyne was once again the waiter, finding his partner too free in the large area to just divert to the hammocks.
On the field, Brazilians Ederson, goalkeeper, Gabriel Jesus, striker, and Fernandinho, defensive midfielder and captain, started as a starter for the Manchester team.
The scoreboard now leaves City with 50 points at the top of the table, eight ahead of second-place Chelsea. Brentford, on the other hand, comes much lower and in a different fight in the championship. The team occupies 14th place, with 20 points.
For the next round of English, Manchester City will face Arsenal, in London, at 9:30 am (GMT) this Saturday, the first day of 2022. Brentford, on the following day, will host Aston Villa, at 11:00 am.
Chelsea come out ahead at Stamford Bridge, but suffer a draw at the end
In another match played on Wednesday, Chelsea, City’s opponents for the top spot, hosted Brighton in London and came out ahead in the first half. However, at the end of the game, at 45 in the final stage, it was drawn. The match ended 1 to 1.
The first goal of the game was scored by Belgium forward Romelu Lukaku, 28 minutes into the first half. The player took advantage of a corner kick on the right to go up high and head in the corner of the net.
However, towards the end of the game, when the scoreboard seemed decided, Brighton sought a draw, 45 minutes into the second stage. Marc Cucurella crossed from the left and Danny Welbeck headed between the defense to make everything the same.
The cold water bucket keeps Chelsea runners-up in the table with 42 points, now eight behind first-place Manchester City. Brighton is well below, in tenth, with 24.
For the next round of the Premier League, Chelsea will have a direct confrontation in the table against third-placed Liverpool, at home, at 1:30 pm (GMT) this Sunday. Brighton, also on Sunday, visits Everton at 11am.
