The 2022 World Youth Hockey Championship has been canceled due to coronavirus outbreaks in several teams. RIA Novosti reports.
On December 29, it became known that the match between the national teams of Russia and Slovakia at the MFM was canceled. In accordance with the rules of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), the Russian team was awarded a technical defeat with a score of 0: 1.
It was also reported that the coronavirus test of 17-year-old Matvey Michkov was positive. In total, two players were infected in the team. The athletes, as well as the doctor in contact with them, were quarantined.
In total, on December 28 and 29, two more matches were canceled due to positive tests from the players of the USA and Czech national teams. The teams were also awarded technical defeats.
The youth ice hockey world championship was to be held from December 26 to January 5 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Canada. It was planned that Russia will play in the group stage with the USA, Sweden, Slovakia and Switzerland.
