Deputy Portener NHL Dailey: Russia’s participation would make the Olympic Games better
The deputy commissioner of the National Hockey League (NHL) Bill Daily estimated the possible admission of the Russian national team for the Olympic Games-2026. His words are given by RIA Novosti.
Daily advocated the participation of Russians, noting that this would make the Olympic tournament better. “But this is not our decision. As far as I understand, this decision will be made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), not the International Hockey Federation (IIHF), ”he added.
On February 4, IIHF extended sanctions against the Russian national team and did not allow the team to the 2026 World Cup. At the same time, the decision to speak the team at the Olympiad in Italy will be made after the election of the President of the IOC in March 2025. In the case of a positive verdict, the Russian team will play on an OI with the United States, Slovakia and Latvia in the group S.
Russian hockey players have been removed from international tournaments since the end of February 2022. The last major competition for the Russians was the Olympic Games-2022, where the team won silver medals.
