PZPN president Sebastian Świderski planned the announcement of the new coach on January 12, when the federation board will meet, but the situation already looks quite clear. The only candidate who has a real chance of becoming a successor is Nikola Grbić.
This is not a surprise, the name of the Serb was mentioned several months ago in the context of taking over the representation. Grbić is a favorite not only of the most important people in the relationship, but also of the majority of the volleyball community – few see the possibility of a different choice in Sebastian Świderski. For the time being, there is peace in the coach’s surroundings, combined with waiting for the most important moves in the case to start.
Candidates crumble. Mendez says “I have something to do”
More dominoes began to fall behind his back. . This is a clear signal: the coach has an important position in the club, has a certain job and does not look like he is looking for another position. Importantly, Mendez signed a contract with the Polish club, and according to the PZPS rules, such a position cannot be combined with the position of the national team coach. – At the moment, neither me, nor the Mendez coach we thought about it – says the president of Resovia, Piotr Maciąg, about the possible departure of Mendez from the club for the national team.
The conviction that Mendez will only work in Rzeszów in Poland is reinforced by the words of Argentine journalists who. According to our information, it is not the case that the Argentine has formally ceased to be a candidate for the coach of the Polish national team. At the same time, however, his choices do not indicate that he gave himself a chance – he received a specific signal from him: “I have something to do”.
Giuliani to leave Slovenia? His successor may be another piece of the puzzle in Poland
Employment of Mendez in Rzeszów is a consequence of the dismissal of Alberto Giuliani. A few months ago, Italy was also mentioned among the candidates for the coach of the Polish national team, but.
At the moment, however, even his situation in Slovenia is very uncertain – Giuliani has not yet explained whether he will remain the coach of the local team, because the Slovenian federation is still analyzing his situation – he talks to players, he also consults among activists.
This analysis has been going on for several months, and our information shows that Giuliani’s departure from the Slovenian national team is practically a foregone conclusion. – He had two great jobs, he will soon be left with none – we hear. The trainer himself has not yet answered the questions sent by Sport.pl.
And again – falling domino blocks fall over the next ones. Who could train the Slovenes? According to Sport.pl, Lorenzo Bernardi is intensively negotiating with the local federation. It is possible that the Gas Sales Piacenza coach – another candidate for the coach of the Polish national team – will start working with the team that took away the Poles promotion to the final of this year’s European championships in September.
However, the Slovenes will probably choose their coach later than the Poles, so it is not the case that Bernardi will not be taken into account by the PZPS completely before January 12. But his position – as in the case of Mendez – has been undermined by the trainer himself, who is closer to another job.
The candidacy for the coach of Polish volleyball players served as a good tactic. Now the most important period for Świderski
What about the fourth candidate? It would be Płamen Konstantinov, the coach of Lokomotiv Novosibirsk, about which, but the Bulgarian has an illusory chance to work in Poland. If he was selected to the final four by PZPS, he is not a real threat to the position of Nikola Grbic anyway. Only Mendez and Bernardi could theoretically be.
However, it seems that they will not be, and the case of the Polish volleyball players’ coach seems to be practically settled. What did the remaining candidates who were not selected for the position gained? Time, camouflage and a tactical play that allowed them to distract a bit from the places where they are most likely to end up ending up.
In case it is time for official moves. Świderski announces the announcement of a new manager on January 12, but to officially introduce Grbic that day, both of them still have some work to do. The Serb is the coach of the Italian club Sir Safety Perugia and if he is to take over the Polish representation, all parties must reach an agreement. It shouldn’t be very hard to get, and Grbić and Świderski are in a better position than club owner Gino Sirci. He does not want to allow him to combine both roles, nor let him go to Poland, but he does not have many possibilities if Grbić clearly presents that he wants to become the coach of the Polish team. Searching for a favorable solution for everyone is probably the most important plan of the trainer and the president of PZPS for the next two weeks.
