European skiers will not boycott the race in Italy with the participation of Bolshunov
European skiers will not boycott the Sudtirol MoonLight Classic race due to the participation of Russian Alexander Bolshunov. The organizers told TASS about this.
The organizers said that they received reports in connection with the participation of Russian athletes, but there were no politically motivated failures. “We consider ourselves as a sports organization, and our intention is to provide an honest and high -quality race,” they said.
The participation of the three -time Olympic champion Bolshunov in the Sudtirol MoonLight Classic race became known on February 10. A Russian who conducts a training camp in Italy will perform at a distance of 30 kilometers along with skiers from Italy, Germany, Austria, Sweden and the Czech Republic. Earlier, the Sudtirol MoonLight Classic team, explaining Bolshunov’s admission, announced distance from political polemics.
The restrictions on the performance of Russians by the International Federation of Ski Racing and Snowboard (FIS) were imposed in March 2022. From that moment on, representatives of Russia have been suspended from international tournaments under the auspices of the organization.
