Yagudin: There is hockey in Russia, I can’t say about football with clear confidence
Olympic figure skating champion Alexei Yagudin doubted the presence of football in Russia. His words are given by Sport-Express.
“There is hockey in our country, I cannot say about football with clear confidence. You can see the Europa League and the Champions League … and we will understand where our Zenit is located, ”said Yagudin. The skater added that in Russian hockey he likes the Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo because of the coach Igor Larionov, but he did not decide on football, because “this is clearly not ours.”
In December, VTsIOM published the results of a survey of Russians about national sports. When asked what kind of sports the respondents would be called national, 27 percent of the respondents were called hockey.
At the same time, the former football player of the Moscow CSKA and the Russian national team Vladimir Ponomarev called Hockey the most drunken sport. According to him, in Soviet times, many players drank.
