Zhurova approved this idea, noting that same -sex duets exist in synchronous swimming and ballroom dancing. “From a sports point of view, there is a sense in female couples in figure skating, but only if a LGBT-Podople is not invested in this (the international public movement of LGBT is recognized as extremist and is prohibited in the Russian Federation). From an aesthetic point of view, it can be beautiful, ”she said.
Earlier, the Olympic champion in ice dancing Natalya Bestemyanova also supported the competition of same -sex duets in this sport. “Why not, let it develop,” she concluded.
In 2022, the Canadian figure skating federation allowed skaters of the same floor to form sports couples and dance duets at national tournaments. In competitions under the auspices of the International Union of Skate, such duets do not take part.
