Head of the KHL Morozov: World Cups without the Russian national team have no value
The head of the continental hockey league (KHL) Alexei Morozov appreciated the level of international tournaments without the Russian national team. His words are given by RIA Novosti.
“Of course, we want to see Russia in the world arena. We understand that without our stars, without the Russian team, these events – the world championships and others – have no value, ”said Morozov. In his opinion, tournaments are losing significance for the participants themselves, since it is necessary to win the best on world arenas.
On February 4, the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) extended sanctions against the Russian national team and did not allow the team to be the 2026 World Cup. At the same time, the decision to speak the team at the Olympic Games-2026 will be made after the election of the president of the International Olympic Committee in March 2025.
Russian hockey players have not been participating in international tournaments since the end of February 2022. The last major competition for Russians was the 2022 Olympics, where the team won silver medals.
