The Secretary General of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Maxim Mitrofanov appreciated the position of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) upon the return of Russia to international tournaments. His words are given by “Soviet sport.”
Mitrofanov expressed the hope that Russian clubs and teams will be able to return to the international arena in 2025. “The work is underway, you see that the rhetoric of colleagues is changing,” he emphasized.
Earlier, the director of the Department of National Associations of UEFA Zoran Lakovich expressed hope for lifting sanctions from Russian sports in 2025. He noted that he understands the feelings of Russians.
The International Football Federation (FIFA) and UEFA in February 2022 removed Russian teams and clubs from participating in international competitions for an indefinite period. The Russian national team, including not allowed to draw a selection for the 2026 World Cup.
