UEFA Lakovich opposed the removal of Russia from international tournaments
Director of the Department of National Associations of UEFA Zoran Lakovich at an extraordinary conference of the Russian Football Union (RFU) spoke about the removal of athletes from Russia from international tournaments. His words are given by Sport24.
The functionary opposed such a decision and noted that the sport should be independent of political influence.
He also recalled that he is a Serb by nationality, so he perfectly understands the feelings of Russians.
“Our country in connection with the sanctions imposed by the UN, between 1992 and 1996, was removed from all major sports competitions,” Lakovich added.
Earlier, Lakovich expressed the hope that sanctions from Russian athletes would be removed until the end of 2025. The International Football Federation (FIFA) and UEFA in February 2022 suspended Russian teams and clubs from participating in international competitions for an indefinite period.
