FIS head Johan Eliash allowed Russians returning to international tournaments
The head of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Johan Eliash allowed Russians returning to international tournaments. It is reported by TASS.
“No athlete can choose where he was born. Athletes should not be used for political purposes, ”Eliash said.
The Swedish functionary is a candidate for the post of head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The elections will be held in March 2025.
Earlier, another candidate for the post of head of the IOC, Prince Faisal al-Hussain, allowed the removal of restrictions from Russia. “The Olympic Charter is what drives me. If Russia complies with the charter, I have no reason to apply sanctions to it, ”he said. In his opinion, athletes should be provided with equal conditions and access to sports regardless of political circumstances.
