14-year-old Russian Akhmedov defeated Karlsen at the SHAHMATES tournament

The 14-year-old Russian chess player David Akhmedov defeated the 16th world champion Magnus Karlsen on the title Tuesday online tournament. It is reported by the “Championship”.

The meeting was held as part of the second round, the 34-year-old Norwegian played with black figures. Carlsen heads the rating of the International Chess Federation, Akhmedov is not included in the top 100 best players in the world.

On January 1, Karlsen and the Russian grandmaster Yang Nepomnya shared the first place of the world championship in New York. The final consisted of four parties: the first two remained for the Norwegian, but the Russian managed to restore equality. The rivals agreed on a draw, and Fide agreed to divide the title between them.

In December last year, Fide extended permission to Russian chess players to speak under the flag of the organization. The corresponding decision was approved by the FIDE Council.
