NHL and NHLPA planned to hold the World-2028 Cup without the participation of IIHF

The National Hockey League (NHL) and the League Players (NHLPA) decided to hold the World Cup in 2028 without the participation of the International Hockey Federation (IIHF). This was announced by TSN journalist Darren Dreger on his page on the social network X.

NHL and NHLPA planned to make an announcement about the Cup of World during the upcoming four nations tournament. The event will be held from February 12 to February 20 in Montreal and Boston, the national teams of Canada, the USA, Sweden and Finland will take part in it.

The World Cup is an international tournament, which was held three times (in 1996, 2004 and 2016). The last time the Canadian team was the champion.

IIHF extended the removal of the national teams of Russia and Belarus for the season-2024/2025. The sanctions were first imposed in February 2022. In the NHL, Russians continue to perform without restrictions.
